Its winter, a time of the year where you get to don your favourite crewtop hoodie and match it with those tartan pants you love. Now with the crisp winter winds whistling around our Sunday gatherings it felt like one thing was missing, for us it was an uplifting track. A beat so clean that your foot starts to tap, hips start to sway and the mood is uplifted. This is where you flip on 'Black Girl Magic' The latest track by Awa Mbaye! For us it's a story that builds into an uplifting and happy track.
Black Girl Magic is Awa Mbaye latest single that debuted on the 18th of May and my oh my its a gem. It builds softly in the begging where we are given an insight into how it was for Awa growing up in predominately white spaces as a mix raced kid. As the song progresses we are introduced to this notion that her mumma was a guiding light in these times and always taught Awa to love everything about herself and her culture.
Awa states that her musical mission to paint a place where both her and her listeners feel empowered to finesse their own identity rather than have it decided for them and she has conveyed this perfectly in her track. Now since Awa is from Eora / Sydney its important we find the time to get around her whenever she gets to pop this track off, we have it on good authority that she will be bumping this track on the 23rd of June at the esteemed venue and watering hole Vic On The Park. This is a free entry event with a special guest, Devaura.
We love seeing talent shine and follow their calling and Awa has done exactly that, with music that brings life to a party and an aura that lights up a room. We can't wait to see what's next in her journey!
